Mabur Islands

Just half an hour from the coast of Borneo, tiny Mabul Island is only a 20 hectares piece of land, 5-10 metres above sea level, covered in tall palm trees and fringed with soft white sand. Yet despite its relative size, Mabul offers a macro diving paradise, one that you are hard pressed to find elsewhere. Among the international diving community, Mabul’s reputation as one of the world’s best macro diving site is definitely no kept secret.

Diving at Mabul is otherwise known as muck diving, a term used to describe limited visibility dives at shallow sites with usually sandy bottoms, or in other words, heaven for divers who love macro stuff.
Highlights of Mabul include the Hawksbill Turtle, Giant Turtle, Manta Ray, Blue-ringed Octopus and Flamboyant Cuttlefish.

Best Time to Dive

  • Mabul, just like Sipadan, it is not affected by the annual North-east monsoon due to its location in east Malaysia, making scuba diving available all year round. The best conditions at Mabul are from March to October.
