Lombok, Bali

The first deep water trench directly to the east of the Asian continental shelf, Lombok Straits features the greatest volume flow of tidal water on Earth – the Indonesian Throughflow (Arus Lintas Indonesia).

Naturally, the strong currents not only cause rollercoaster rides that characterize some of Bali’s dive sites, but also clean the water and bring regular visits from mola molas, reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles and manta rays. Further down south from the usual dive sites around Gili Islands, is Blongas Bay, where schooling hammerheads are often sighted.

Decemeber – March is when the North-East monsoon occurs and there are few divers around. Although it is still possible to dive and see macro life, visibility tends to be reduced.
