Dayang Island (or Pulau Dayang) holds a special spot in many Singaporeans and Malaysians’ hearts – it is where they were first introduced to scuba diving, or, for a select few, where they had their first sighting of whale sharks, manta rays…
Located in West Malaysia, Dayang Island is part of 5 islands (the Aur group) – Pulau Aur, Pulau Lang, Pulau Pinang and Pulau Pemanggil – that make up a distinct portion of Johor Marine Park. Untouched and virtually unknown outside of Singapore and Malaysia, Dayang boasts crystal clear blue waters, friendly service and a fabulous array of marine life.
Best time to dive:
March – November. Traditionally, the dive season for Dayang starts in late February and ends in early November. At the end / start of the dive season, when the currents are very rough, sightings of whale sharks and manta rays at Dayang become relatively frequent.
Between November to February, when the North-East monsoon makes for unsafe and challenging diving in Malaysia, good alternatives are either Phuket, in Thailand, or Bintan, in Indonesia.
